Northeast Ramp Bridge and Westbound I-290 Mainline Reconstruction
OMEGA is currently providing Construction Engineering Services for the Illinois Department of Transportation. The work includes two separate contracts consisting of construction of a new curved girder bridge from the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) to eastbound Congress Parkway, and reconstruction of the westbound mainline I-290 pavement between I-90/94 and Racine Avenue.
The NE Bridge is a two unit four span structure at approximately 544 feet in length. The Bridge contract includes bridge demolition, up to 8 foot diameter drilled shafts into bedrock, hammerhead piers with architectural details, installation of metalized curved girders, and bridge deck and parapet construction. Mainline I-290 reconstruction includes jointed concrete pavement, repairs to existing retaining walls, interstate lighting improvements, installation of ITS technology, replacement of electrical feeds for CTA pump station, and a new CCTV camera. Reconstruction of the ramp from the inbound Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) to outbound I-290 is also included in the scope.
Both contracts include drainage, signing, traffic control and protection, non-special waste disposal, erosion control, landscaping, and pavement markings. Close coordination with the City of Chicago, Chicago Transit Authority, Office of Underground Coordination, and other adjacent construction contracts is needed throughout the duration of these projects which are taking place within one of the nation’s busiest interchanges that carries over 400,000 daily motorists.
