Dan Ryan Expressway
Elevated Bridge Structure from Roosevelt Road to 31st Street
OMEGA provided construction engineering services for the Illinois Department of Transportation’s $45 million Dan Ryan Elevated Bridge Structure Rehabilitation Project. The two year project involved milling and hydro-scarification of the existing bridge decks, partial and full-depth bridge deck patching, removing and replacing all expansion joints and overlaying the bridge deck with microsilica concrete.
The Dan Ryan Expressway carries more than 300,000 vehicles a day, making it the busiest expressway in Chicago. During construction, three lanes of traffic remained open in each direction at all times. The project was completed one month ahead of schedule and is expected to extend the life of the elevated bridge structures by approximately 25 years.
