Milwaukee Avenue Improvements
from Kilpatrick to Addison
OMEGA provided construction engineering services for this $7 million project located just south of the historic “Six Corners” neighborhood between Kilpatrick Avenue and Kildare Avenue. The project involved full depth PCC pavement reconstruction between Kenton Avenue and Kilbourn Avenue in order to allow the Metra and Union Pacific railroad viaduct pavement to be lowered to match the latest clearance standards.
This project included street lighting, traffic signals, sewers and drainage structures, existing sewer lining, new water main, driveways, ADA compliant ramps and sidewalks, railroad track removal, full depth pavement removal, bituminous pavement removal, Class C patching, structure adjustments, reinforced concrete curb walls, hot mix asphalt resurfacing, pavement markings, traffic signs, new tree grates, trees and landscaping.
Reconstruction was staged so that one lane was maintained in both directions at all times on Milwaukee Avenue to prevent roadway closures. Extensive communication with Metra was established from the beginning of the project to allow Metra to perform repairs to the superstructure and to the pedestrian stairs going to the station platform during Milwaukee Avenue reconstruction. Public safety and access was kept as priority throughout the job site at all times.
