Project Scope
The two-year project involved:
- Milling and hydro-scarification of the existing bridge decks
- Overlaying the bridge deck with microsilica concrete
The Dan Ryan Expressway carries more than 300,000 vehicles a day, making it the busiest expressway in Chicago. During construction, three lanes of traffic always remained open in each direction. The project was completed one month ahead of schedule and is expected to extend the life of the elevated bridge structures by approximately 25 years.
