Chicago Department of Transportation

North Branch Canal, Chicago, Illinois
OMEGA provided construction engineering services for this $13 million project which involved removing and replacing the existing bridge with a new tied-arch bridge over the Chicago River.

Project Scope

The project included:

  • New abutments
  • Two culverts running under the approaches
  • Pavement reconstruction and pavement resurfacing
  • Cofferdams, driving new piles, and temporary shoring towers

The new tied-arch bridge features two full traffic lanes in each direction, as well as marked bike lanes in each direction, a configuration that improves traffic flow and safety for motorists and bicyclists.
