IL 59 Reconstruction

Illinois Department of Transportation

Plainfield, Illinois
Construction Engineering
OMEGA provided construction engineering services for the Illinois Department of Transportation’s $30 million reconstruction of a three-mile stretch of Illinois Route 59 from Illinois 126 to Caton Farm Road in Plainfield.

Project Scope

The three-year project included the widening of the roadway from two to four lanes, and the installation of left turn lanes at major intersections

Illinois Route 59 is a Strategic Regional Arterial (SRA) route in western Will County. An estimated 24,000 vehicles utilize Illinois Route 59 every day. These numbers are expected to rise as the communities of Plainfield, Joliet, and Shorewood continue to grow.

Due to increased traffic volumes and the condition of the roads, complete reconstruction was needed. The reconstruction project reduced congestion and provided a safer roadway.
