In-House Resident Engineer

Chicago Department of Water Management

Chicago, Illinois
OMEGA has provided construction engineering services for this $50 million per year sewer main installation program for the Chicago Department of Water Management since 2011.

Project Scope

The sewer program provides relief to the areas that are affected by flooding and aims to upgrade the horizontal and vertical clearances between the existing water main and the new sewer main. The program covers the entire city and is divided into three main geographical areas – North, Central and South.

Each area has two CDWM in-house crews per area which work year-round to install approximately 80,000 feet of 24 inch to 72-inch sewer main. The program also includes replacement of damaged inlets, catch basins, and manholes.

The water program aimed to replace old water mains from the late 1800s.  The program consisted of:

  • Overseeing in-house City crews performing the installation of new water main
  • Connecting old water main to new, transferring water services for residential and commercial property
